When we first started our blog, it was to give us a push to explore new places and try new things. Somewhere down the line that proved to be a difficult task. Afterall, how many new things can you really do in a city you’ve lived in all your life. Right? Well, to our delight, we heard about this new activity that gave us a reason to get back into it. To make exploring more fun, you can now discover Bangkok as a detective thanks to GoSnoop.

What is GoSnoop?

gosnoop

GoSnoop is not like your typical travel tour company. In fact, it does one better than the best local experience tours by adding a twist. GoSnoop is an outdoor adventure game that explores a city (currently only Bangkok) as a detective trying to solve a case. Currently, they only have one game called the Golden Mountain’s Eclipse.

With GoSnoop you are not just trying to solve a case or exploring the city, it’s an experience of all the senses.

Using evidence, hints, and maps, you have to go around the city to uncover the mystery and eventually solve the case.

Mission

The mission if you choose to accept is to figure out the disappearance of a Thai family. The exact brief goes like this:

The Rattanakosin Island police have been investigating the disappearance of a Thai family. Mr. Somsak, his wife and their daughter have been missing for several days and their fate is unknown. Unfortunately, due to a lack of concrete evidence, the police have not been able to trace their whereabouts, or find out exactly what happened to the family.

Your Mission is to review the evidence and re-trace the events leading up to the family’s disappearance. Follow the breadcrumbs to solve the mystery and identify key information that might help you find the missing family.

Our Experience

A few days before the activity, we received an email with a brief and instructions on where we would be meeting. We arrived at the starting location where we met all the other teams and the GoSnoop agents. We met by the exhibition hall in Rattanakosin and noticed that we have passed this area quite often but never took the time to actually explore it.

Shortly after the agents went over the case, provided some evidence, a map and some last-minute guidelines. And we were off!

Now we can’t give you any details of where we went and what we uncovered because that would take the fun out of it for you but just know that it was an epic experience. We went up high to get a birds eye of the city and we went low to discover interesting things.

We visited some iconic sites but also uncovered some hidden gems in tiny alleys.

The more we walked and tried to figure out the clues, the more we discovered new places we had never seen before or knew existed. We actually forgot at times that we were trying to solve a case. It was as if we were tourists in our own city.

The day was literally a treat for all the senses, even smell because of all the delicious street food stalls we came across along the way.

We divided the work evenly, as Kanika was responsible for figuring out the clues and questions while I handled the directions but also helped here and there. We only had 3 hours to complete the game so time was of the essence. While we were busy taking pictures, we had to hurry as well. Luckily, we were not the last team to arrive at our destination.

Solving the case

At the final resting point, we had to put all our evidence and clues together to solve the mystery – where had Mr. Somsak and his family disappeared? I think Kanika and I were able to figure it out quite quickly when we discovered a key piece of evidence. We filled out a police report and gave it to our agents. Much to our surprise, we got the highest score! Yay for us.

Final words

So would we recommend this activity? Hell to the yes! And to everybody – tourists, expats, young, old. It really is an activity for everyone to enjoy. We recommend that you come in a group of 3 or more but not more than six because that would get crowded. Too many minds trying to figure out the clues would be chaos.

If you are planning on trying out GoSnoop (which we totally think you should), here is a 10% discount code for you guys: “GoSnoopxdoseoflife“. We hope you enjoy as much as we did!
