You know that question every traveler or travel blogger gets, right? It is no secret but “how do you travel so much” is always at the tip of their tongue. The interesting fact is we don’t actually travel all that much as we would like.

Here’s the thing. Traveling is not always about going to the most exotic or furthest destination. Even if you can go to nearby cities or off-the-beaten locations within your own country, that is still travel. In fact, it is the best kind of travel there is. Sure we would love to go to Paris or Milan or New York every now and then.

There’s also the question of money. How can afford to travel so often?

The answer is simple. It’s all about planning and finding the right deals at the right time. This means you have to combine a mixture of strategies. It can be traveling off-season, booking cheap flights months in advance, searching for good deals online and so on.

For us, we try to save the most on flights because we like to splurge on our accommodation, food and experiences.

Air Asia is our go-to budget Airline

For international flights, we haven’t really been to that many countries. The ones we have visited, Air Asia doesn’t fly to currently but with more and more destinations being added on Air Asia and Air Asia X flight path (India, New Zealand, Australia and now even Hawaii) we are 100% sure to book more flights with them.

For domestic flights, we always use Air Asia. We’ve been to Phuket a few times, Koh Samui via Nakhon Si Thammarat and Koh Tao via Surat Thani. Yes, we love that they offer city/island transfers as well! It made traveling to these places hassle-free.

Catching that early morning flight ✈ to Koh Tao via Surat Thani. Nice dusky #sunrise! 🌇 #doseoflife #travel #domestictravel

In the past, most of our flights to Singapore and Malaysia were also through Air Asia and we absolutely loved it. We can’t wait to visit more countries with Air Asia X. I’m looking at you Japan, Australia, New Zealand and yes you Hawaii!

Why Air Asia

BIG Points: Apart from dozens of destinations being offered on Air Asia at low cost, we love the BIG points loyalty program. You can earn points by flying with them and also through their various partners such as Agoda, Booking.com, CitiBank and Klook. With these BIG points, you can redeem flights and even accommodation at Tune hotels. We just redeemed a return flight from Bangkok to Buri Ram.

Ease of use: booking flights through Air Asia is quite user-friendly whether on a computer or on their app. We admit, at first it was a bit confusing, especially the add-ons. Budget airlines in general automatically add on perks (luggage, insurance, etc) so you make sure you tick them off if you don’t want to pay extra unnecessary fees. They can really rack up and ruin your budget. You can always manage your booking and add upgrades and add-ons later online. Make sure you do it a day or two in advance to save money. It’s always more expensive at the counters.

Lots of options: depending on what kind of traveler you are, Air Asia definitely has a lot of options to choose from. You can go completely basic with no checked luggage, meals and whatsoever and just pay for the ticket + tax or go full on. On our domestic flights we check in only one bag and carry the other. We also don’t order any food on board because the flights usually only last an hour to an hour and a half. For longer flights we would surely pre-order our meals because come on, look how delicious this food looks. We’ve been on higher end airlines and the food is terrible!

Customer service at Air Asia is also pretty great. Our biggest tip to get immediate service is to take your concerns to twitter. You can either mention them in a tweet or direct message them. We recommend doing both to be really heard. The power of social media is undeniable in the age of customer service.
