Imagine yourself as a bird, nested away in your private little area, away from the chaos and pollution of Bangkok as you dine or sleep under the stars with your significant other. That’s just a jist of what you can expect at the Bangkok Tree House.

While exploring through Bang krachao, Bangkok’s green lung we found our way to a restaurant and hotel that is exactly what it sounds like a tree house. Well not literally a tree house but close enough.

Ambiance & Design

This marvelous and eco friendly structure has a very interesting design that balances wood, glass and iron, all surrounded by a lush green environment. There are multiple private and public areas perched above the river banks while hugging the trees around. The dining rooms located on the first deck were surrounded by floor ceiling windows that allowed ample natural light to shine. Taking the stairs up, you reach another deck with open air seating that further lead up to a top deck that overlooked the river, forest trees and a contrasting view of high rise buildings of Bangkok city.

When we reached at about 1 pm, there were only about 4 or 5 tables occupied with the special private rooms already taken. However, in just less than an hour, the restaurant was crawling with tourists, expats and locals. It was happening and I was glad to have reached early.

The design and ambiance is definitely the highlight or selling point of this place.

Food & Service

We sat down on the corner table and waited for the staff to bring us the menu, which she did shortly. The menu was a mixture of authentic Thai and fusion cuisine. I had decided from home that I wanted to have a krapao kai, stir fry chicken with basil. I wanted that with a fried egg. It’s my staple Thai dish and I like to try it almost everywhere I go. Kanika wanted the green curry chicken. As starters, we picked the yum seafood salad (200 THB). There’s also a full range of vegan and vegan items on the menu so there’s an option for everyone here. Check out their recommended food and drinks on their Facebook page. We had both decided what we wanted. But then we waited. And waited some more. Another 5 minutes went by and we hadn’t even ordered yet. Where’s the staff?? I went outside the air conditioned room to get their attention and the waitress nodded. A few minutes later she walks in and took our order. By now we were halfstarved and couldn’t wait for our meals.

Luckily the salad came first and we dug in. It was wonderfully made with just the right amount of sweet, sour and spice. The seafood was also cooked to perfection.

Minutes later and halfway through our salad, our main dishes arrived. Served alongside was brown rice, which was excellent since that’s exactly what I needed. The krapao was decent but nothing spectacular. Green curry on the other hand was well prepared with the perfect mixture of creaminess and spice level. We devoured our food slowly as I sipped on my Singha beer.

We spent a good 1.5 hour here enjoying our food, the view and conversations about Dose of Life. The service could have been faster as when we had ordered dessert, the waitress came 5 minutes later to tell us that it was finished. So we just called for the bill and finally made our way out.

Apparently they also have a fourcourse menu (490THB++) that you can try but it wasn’t offered to us on the day we visited. Probably have to call in advance first.

Unfortunately we didn’t spend the night at the tree house but the Globetrotter Girls did an amazing job reviewing the hotel section.

Overall, this is a great place to visit amongst friends or loved ones for food and drinks. If the weather was nicer we would have chosen to sit upstairs in the open rather in the air conditioned room but if the heat doesn’t bother you, I recommend sitting on the top deck and soak in the nature.
