UPDATE: Due to recent events of the Thailand’s HM King’s passing, the event has been postponed to April 8th. As we get new details, we will update this post again.

It’s been over 2 years, just days after we got married when we last went to the paradisaical island of Thailand known as Koh Samui. Since then we longed to feel her soft sands between our toes, swim in aqua blue waters and lounge in one of the many gorgeous resorts it has to offer. But with so many places to visit in the world, we didn’t think we would be going there anytime soon. That was until we heard about a music festival that is set to hit this paradise island early next year.

What is the festival?

It just so happens that the event is aptly named Paradise Island Festival and it is dubbed as a first of its kind to hit Thailand. Spread across two days, the festival will feature some of  the best international and Thai musical artists with focus on “feel-good sounds” such as soul, funk, hip-hop, jazz and reggae.

So far the line-up confirmations are the likes of (these may change now):

DE LA SOUL // GOLDIE // MARIBOU STATE // ANCHORSONG // MAD PROFESSOR

Although we have never heard of any of these artists, we are definitely excited! This is mainly due to the fact the music scene in Thailand has been the same the past few years – mind numbing EDM/techno. Paradise festival is not going to be your typical EDM concert with overdone DJ artists, neon lights and tacky graphics.

We love that there is hip-hop and other genres of music. It kind of reminds us of Coachella (not that we’ve ever been to one) but we’re getting a good vibe.

More than just music

The Paradise Island Festival is also more than just a music event. It’s also all promoting local art and culture with a focus on sustainable tourism. That’s something we as travelers can all get behind, right?

The festival promises to showcase Thai cultural performances, art exhibitions, yoga classes, Thai massage, Thai cooking, workshops and more. These are all amazing things to look forward to for this upcoming festival, regardless if you are into music or not.

If you’re a traveler, music enthusiast or just someone who enjoys culture with a twist, this is a must-attend event. Also, not to mention, it’s on a beautiful island! That’s a win-win, fantastic reason on its own.

Where to stay on Koh Samui

Since the festival is being held at Big Buddha (Bang Rak) beach (northwest side of the island), you should probably get an accommodation close by. Lucky for you, we have created a map pinpointing some hotels and hostels for you. You can also see a few other options on travelfish.

Disclosure: this is a sponsored post by soundcrashmusic.com as we are receiving press passes to the festival. However, as always, we provide honest opinions of the event and all affiliated parties.
