Singapore is one of Asia’s largest commercial and financial hubs. The country is the size of a large that is filled with architecture, cuisine, and culture that is quite unique. Kanika used to live there for 2 years when she was studying and I would visit quite often. The longest I stayed was for 1.5 months. This made exploring Singapore very fun as we did it slowly, like a local.

We spent a lot of time at hawker centers, partying at night clubs, spending the day at malls, and visiting friends in different parts of the city.

Traveling around Singapore is very easy and safe. It’s one of those countries that you don’t need much research or tours to get around. It’s fairly straight forward as almost everyone speaks English, public transport is great and everything is not too far away. I mean you can literally drive from one end to the other in about an hour (depending on traffic).

Here are some tips we can give you guys if you plan on exploring Singapore by yourself, with family or friends. P.S. This is NOT a “things to do or see” post.

Explore the City on Foot, By Bus, or in a Taxi

Though only a small island, when you get out on foot, Singapore becomes a huge place with so much to offer crammed into a little space. However, it’s easy to navigate since the country is so organized and planned.

You can spend a whole day, or even two, exploring the city on foot and barely scratch the surface of this wonderful city. Start a morning off at the Gardens by the Bay.

Here you will find one of the world’s best kept botanical gardens that you can’t miss because of the 160 foot ‘Supertrees’ that are the garden’s focal point.

Just across the from the Gardens is the Singapore Flyer, one of the world’s largest Ferris Wheels. At the peak of this state-of-the-art ride, you are offered views of the city and the bay from a height of 42-stories. Finish the day off in one of the many excellent restaurants in the Bay, and you have barely begun to explore the city.

I think in like one or two weeks, you could see all of Singapore from every corner and crack.

Visit the Islands of Singapore to Find its Natural Beauty

Singapore has lots to explore just off its coastline, and with so many ferry and fast boat services, you should definitely take a trip across the water, even if only to see the city of Singapore from the sea.

Look here for ferries or fast boats that hop over the Singapore Strait and let you explore the tropical archipelago of the Batam Islands, Indonesia for the day. Here you can find idyllic beaches and ‘castaway’ islands, all within easy reach of the unique Batam City. It is a great day out if you are staying in Singapore.

You can use these services to hop along the Singapore coastline or cross the bay quickly and easily. The boat services are very frequent and inexpensive, with many native Singaporeans using them to commute on a daily basis.

Take a Stroll Through Singapore’s Cultural Precincts

Singapore is blessed with a number of culturally specific precincts like Chinatown, Little India and the area of Kampong Glam. If you are visiting Singapore, taking a stroll through these areas can make you feel like you have taken an around-the-world trip.

Singapore’s rich and diverse cultural history has given it a number of varied influences, spending time under European rule and always in close proximity to powerful neighbors like China and India. It also has strong links to Malay culture, and in Kampong Glam you will find an authentic Malay township and a Malay Heritage Centre. You can spend a whole day exploring each of these areas, or enjoy a different culture for breakfast lunch and dinner while taking a gentle stroll between each one.

Here you will have the luxury of doing things at your own pace with plenty of things to do, see and eat. Time really slows down so savor it.

Keep calm and go to Singapore

We hope that we made exploring Singapore fun, easy and different for you. there is beauty in its natural and urban landscape both during the day and night.

So the next time you visit (for the first time or the 10th time) you will find something exciting to do or experience.
