Koh Chang is one of Thailand’s most popular and largest islands. It’s relatively developed but it’s also super beautiful. It’s one of those islands that have it all – nature, hidden gems, gorgeous resorts, and even nightlife.

It could possibly be one of my favorite islands ever. It’s not too far from Bangkok either (5-hour drive + 1-hour ferry ride). You can also take your private car on the island via the ferry.

On our 4 night visit, we stayed and spent our time on the west side of the island. However, one of the days I decided to drive to and explore eastern Koh Chang.

Since I drove by myself, I had to take a lot of pit stops to take photos. Normally, Kanika or a friend would snap some clicks as I drove. Here’s what I saw.

Whimsical winding roads

OK, I admit that the entire island has stunning scenic drives but the eastern side has a different charm. I can’t really explain it. It’s just raw and feels relatively untouched.

Mangroves

Eastern Koh Chang has a massive mangrove forest in the Salakphet Bay area but unfortunately, I was running out of daylight so I didn’t get a chance to see it. However, there are other smaller mangrove spots spread across the island. This is one that I came across.

Semi-hidden Beaches

Long beach

This beach is at the southeast end of Koh Chang, near the Koh Chang Memorial. I don’t know the name of it but it is absolutely gorgeous. Quite possibly the best beach on the island.

Viewpoints

There are tons of viewpoints on eastern Koh Chang. Some high above sea level while others along the coastline. It’s quite a lovely drive, I have to say. Most are right there as your drive around but there are also quite a few that are hidden and require you to get off the beaten path.

Of course, I missed out on all the hidden ones since I was alone. To get to most of these spots, you either need friends or a guide to go with you.

I am Koh Chang has an awesome list of the best viewpoints.

I found that the western and eastern side of the island is miles apart in its atmosphere and vibes. Eastern Koh Chang was definitely quieter and more laid back. I may be wrong though. Who knows what happens at night?!

My friends and I have planned a trip to Koh Chang at the end of May so I might try to cover all that was missed.
